Banaras, A Mystic Love Story

Banaras is not a destination its a journey of our lives. If you go to watch this movie for a ready-made solution or only to "kill" two hours, you may get disappointed. Banaras is aimed to create a thirst for something one is generally uncomfortable to explore.

What is the Truth?

Satya Kya Hai?

Swetambari, in the movie, is an enlightened soul devoid of common insecurity and fear. She tries to put a perspective to religeon by asking this question.

The question (Satya kya hai?)is meant to provoke us to think outside of the boundary of our religeous beliefs. She invites us to explore the "nature of God" we believe in.

..Our mind is full of insecurity and fear. And to fight that fear we create an imginary "concept" called God...( She calls God, a concept)..... Not happy with the mere imagination of the mind, we begin looking for him( the God) outside of ourselves...As a consequence, disappointed having not found him we continue to be consumed in fear.

Then what is the truth?

And thus the search for the truth becomes the journey of Banaras the movie.

The Genesis

whenever I look up in the night sky "I" shrink to nothingness. What remains is just an awareness of some kind filled with only one question; what happens to me when my body is no more? Will there be a continuation of some kind or a complete termination of my existence? Will I continue to have some role in the cosmic dance of the future or the death will bring a complete extinction?

I always shuddered at the thought even when I was a 10 year old.

The seed of "Banaras" was sown in those very moments.

Banaras, a mystic love story

The Intent.
Banaras is not a destination; it’s only a journey. A journey, full of hope and faith.

I took up the project not to offer a packaged solution to the problems in our lives but to initiate a walk on the path that we are generally hesitant to explore.

It was never my intention to undermine science or deplore rationality but to explore the limitations of our knowledge and look beyond the boundaries of our normal thinking. For no knowledge ever can be obtained unless we keep an open mind. Thus, Banaras is not about flaunting knowledge but about seeking knowledge.

Many critics of the film were unimpressed with the content of philosophy because in their mind, the content was too “elementary”. However let me point out that the philosophy in the film is so advanced that it resembles elementary. Inspired by the nature, we have made huge efforts to hide the complexity to give an exterior that has aesthetics and simplicity. Try and peel a layer and you may get a profound experience.

Try watching Banaras alone with a non-judgmental mind and you might have a totally new experience.
