Banaras, A Mystic Love Story

Banaras is not a destination its a journey of our lives. If you go to watch this movie for a ready-made solution or only to "kill" two hours, you may get disappointed. Banaras is aimed to create a thirst for something one is generally uncomfortable to explore.

The Genesis

whenever I look up in the night sky "I" shrink to nothingness. What remains is just an awareness of some kind filled with only one question; what happens to me when my body is no more? Will there be a continuation of some kind or a complete termination of my existence? Will I continue to have some role in the cosmic dance of the future or the death will bring a complete extinction?

I always shuddered at the thought even when I was a 10 year old.

The seed of "Banaras" was sown in those very moments.

one thing im confused about is elaborate prayers, going to temples and pilgrimages, i used to earlier scorn at people who took the kanwar yatra barefoot and though that if it was really of relevance then all of them would have been made rich by God. Now i can understand that all this has relevance but still....is it right to pour down so much milk over a diety , to construct elaborate temples, and pilgrimages to holy places ...they are quite dirty,im sorry , i know one should look above these things but still......??
And another question that arises is should we believe in God's will ,when all around you see people flourishing with the help of numerology,vastu,etc.. how much belief should one place in these things?

there are people who tell you ,you should visit temples cause if you love god then you should go and show it and bow down in front of him,but i dont feel inclined to do so but start feeling guilty, should i??
people say one should give up non -veg should we give up out of fear of the karmic debt ?? or only when you feel true compassion for that animal??
which form of god should one worship? i like one image of god ,then i star to like him in some other form ,and feel guilty , they are after all diffrent forms of the same god ,so why the guilt??

Dear Meeta,

If you find peace in the temple, go there. If you feel filled with devotion, worship, if not don’t. In Banaras, Babaji tells Soham that bowing-in- fear is not a prayer. To worship you need to have the feeling of love and devotion. When that feeling comes you don’t need a temple, you bow to that feeling. That would still be a prayer.

The guilt is because of the strictures of the religion. Learn to see through them by listening to yourself.

We are entangled in the non-ending web of fear. Truth is where there is aesthetics. What appeals to heart is the truth. You don’t have to give up non-veg. When you will see the inter-connection among the living beings, the compassion will get born. There is no need to push it. If you don’t feel connected eating non-veg is absolutely fine. There is no sin. When you will feel the oneness, you will give up. No one will have to tell you.

God doesn’t have a form. Only beliefs have. In Banaras a mystic love story, there is an exert from Ramayana: Ja kee rahee bhavna jaisee, prabhu murati dekhi tin taisee, meaning, the God appears as different to people as their own beliefs.

Guilt is the result of judging your own actions by someone else’s beliefs rather than your own faith.

Affectinately,

LC

how much is destined and how much is free will?. soham says to gunjan that it is all destined.can destiny be changed by hard work/prayer/penance?
were soham and the psychatrist both destined to die. but miracles do occcur and the psychatrist was saved???
when one brother killed the other in anger was it both brothers destiny or was a life cut short?
